PEOPLE’S FOOD CO-OP
Miller Davis was selected by the People’s Food Co-op (PFC) to construct a new 6,400-square-foot grocery store utilizing design-build project delivery. The PFC is a non-profit, consumer-owned cooperative grocery store that brings a full array of natural products and healthful foods to greater Kalamazoo. The facility also serves as a place for community members to come and learn about various food, health, and environmental issues.
Consistent with the People’s Food Co-op’s mission, 1,400 square feet of the new building are used as a commercial kitchen and business incubator for food preparation and developing area food entrepreneurs. The program strives to build, educate, support, and empower the Kalamazoo community around local food.
The People’s Food Co-op is also the newest addition to the City of Kalamazoo’s River’s Edge Brownfield Redevelopment project. Over the past 10 years, the River’s Edge area has been transformed from post-industrial blight to a colorful neighborhood of choice.
“Well done, Miller Davis! You all did such a great job understanding what People’s needed in a building and then making it happen — on time and under budget! Thanks!” – Chris Dilley, General Manager, People’s Food Co-op of Kalamazoo
