CHENERY AUDITORIUM
The $7.5 million Chenery Auditorium and lobby renovation project was completed in three phases, from 2007 to 2010.
Renovations to the 1924 facility included a covered entrance off of Dutton Street, a two-story glassed-in reception area of the first floor, new auditorium seating (1,550 seats), new green rooms and group dressing rooms for performers, an improved orchestra pit, new air conditioning in the halls and auditorium, and acoustic improvements, including a new orchestra shell, sound lock entrances, and a relocated and reshaped rear wall. The architect was Kingscott Associates of Kalamazoo.
Miller Davis has provided construction services to Chenery Auditorium for over 50 years, including major renovations in 1959 and 1997.
Chenery Auditorium won the 2010 AIA Southwest Michigan Restoration Honor Award.
